11. What is a superbill and how does it work?

A superbill is a document your therapist provides that includes all the information your insurance company needs to process reimbursement for your sessions. It typically lists:

  • Your therapist’s credentials and license

  • Dates and length of each session

  • The type of therapy you received

  • CPT codes used for billing

You can submit the superbill to your insurance company to get reimbursed for some or all of your session costs, depending on your plan.

Pro Tip. Call the number on the back of your insurance card and confirm your benefits will cover reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses.

11. What if I can’t afford therapy?

Most clients aren’t aware of their employer’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Contact your employer’s HR department and request a list of providers for therapy.

Pro Tip. Once you find a therapist from this list, ask if they will accpet your insurance or provide you with a sliding scale once sessions are complete. Also, your free sessions repeat yearly. And no,you don’t have to be a part of your company’s insurance plans.
